Thinking of extending your stay?
Only a 20 minute drive North from the hotel is the National Trust Houghton Mill & Waterclose Meadows site. Witness the last surviving water-powered mill on the River Great Ouse, as it produces stone ground flour. The 18th century, Victorian era mill was one of the most successful flour mills in the region, producing flour on an industrial scale and exporting it far and wide. You can buy the milled flour directly from the shop on site, or sample it in the freshly baked scones or cakes at the tea-room onsite. They are too scrummy to only have one!
Unsurprisingly most of our guests pop in to Cambridge itself, and who can blame them! It is only a 20 minute drive from the hotel to the centre of Cambridge, and between the famed University, brilliant shopping and unparalleled activities, we know we can't keep away either!
Highly recommended is Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences. A fascinating museum filled to the brim with cases of rocks, fossils and preserved creatures, some of which were donated by Charles Darwin. Not to mention that if you pop by the gift shop on your way out, you can purchase your very own fossils and minerals to display at home!
If you fancy getting your outdoor fix within Cambridge, you cannot miss the Cambridge University Botanic Garden. The Garden is an active research facility and a living museum with a collection of over 8,000 plant and tree specimens - enough to make your head spin! From multiple woodland areas, a bog and steam garden, to seasonal gardens, a scented garden and herbaceous beds, you'll get your fix no matter what your preference is.
And, no trip to Cambridge is complete without stopping by to see the Corpus Clock. Considered to be one of the more distinctive monuments in Cambridge, it has been a firm favourite with locals and tourists alike since its inauguration in 2008. What is unique about this clock is it has no hands or digital numbers! If you are thinking it is not much of a clock fret not, there are 3 rings of LEDs located in the pure gold plated design, which displays the hours, minutes and seconds. Make sure you don't miss when an hour is struck, as this unusual clock does not disappoint then either!
Conveniently located by some of the UK's best music festivals, including The Cambridge Club Festival, the Cambridge Rock Festival and The Cambridge Folk Festival, it's a perfect place to rest your head ready to enjoy the music madness the city delivers!
