Thinking of extending your stay?
We are conveniently located between Douglas and Crawford Castles. Despite being a little worse for wear, the ruins are awe-inspiring and give you an idea of the history in the area. Douglas Castle dates back to the 13th century, with the remaining tower believed to be an addition from the 16th or 17th century. The history of Crawford Castle is more elusive but is still very much worth the trip. For history buffs, we are also close to the Crawford John Heritage Centre, the Polish Memorial Garden, and the Leadhills Mining Museum – making our Abington hotel ideal for those short breaks to Scotland.
The surrounding areas are perfect for walks and taking in the scenery. Mennock Pass is particularly breath-taking when you drive through, but if you pull into one of the many available lay-bys, you are in for a treat. A firm favourite amongst our guests, depending on the route you choose the only company for miles are the sheep! The Tinto Hill walk is also popular, with Fallburn Hill Fort located at the top, which rewards visitors with exceptional views of the area. Our guests also love visiting with their dogs, as they thoroughly enjoy the fresh air and endless opportunities to stretch their legs in the many dog friendly walks in the area. The Abington hotel staff especially enjoy meeting our furry visitors and always look forward to their next stay.
A little further away at the head of the Clyde Valley is the historic town of Hamilton, thought to date back to the days of Strathclyde (900-1100). Places of interest include the Hamilton Mausoleum famed for having the longest-lasting echo of any building; the oldest surviving building in Hamilton is the Low Parks Museum which details the history of South Lanarkshire; and the Hamilton Old Parish Church designed by noted Scottish architect William Adam. These iconic nearby locations prove our hotel to be great for a weekend away in Scotland.
