Whilst as an area we may be known for wedding getaways, there is plenty of history in the area and the Annan Museum, in a nearby town, is the perfect place to get a glimpse of this. With items on display dating back 4,000 years to more recent times, and even includes a 110 year old piece of chocolate!

Within a 15-minute drive from the hotel, you'll be transported to a war time past. The Devil's Porridge Museum, explores the fascinating histories of World War One, World War Two and the Cold War. Commemorating HM Factory Gretna and the infamous and deadly “Devil’s Porridge” that was created there. It is considered the top thing to do in Dumfries and Galloway on TripAdvisor, and we concur it is certainly worth the trip.

If you are after a traditional Scottish experience, then look no further than Annandale Distillery down the road. Whisky has been produced here since 1836, and with regular tours, tasting, an onsite café and shop, and very knowledgeable staff, this is a perfect stop for whisky aficionados and newbies alike.

For active adventurers, the perfect spot is only an hour away. Claimed to be the largest forest in the UK, Galloway Forest Park has the most picturesque forest trails (at least according to our guests), three visitor centres, and plenty of local wildlife to spot on your travels. See if you can spot the red deer or wild goats as they forage in the afternoon sun. From exploring the woods and leisurely strolls up the hills, relaxed cycling for the whole family, to electrifying mountain biking with two world-famous 7stanes mountain bike trails to choose from, you will find something that is your speed. If you do reach the top we've been reliably told that the views are spectacular!
